Following on from our successful part in the teams that brought the Olympic Cinema in Barnes to life, The Cinema in the Arches under Battersea bridge & The Cinema at Selfridges we were involved in the early design stages of incorporating a world class boutique cinema inside Battersea Power Station for our long-term Client.

For the two cinema auditoriums in the Battersea Power Station - Screen One Dolby Cinema and the smaller Screen two Dolby Atmos Cinema. Our work included the in-depth design and installation of the Dolby Screen full height and width baffle wall, stretched fabric Dolby Cocoon walls c/w recessed LED detailing, and bespoke stretched fabric cofferred ceiling acoustic treatments in both auditoriums. The final finishes on the side walls, rear walls, projection walls, ceilings, screen lobbies and the walls behind the screens are all by Sound Solutions.

We worked extremely closely with our Client, their Cinema Design Consultants ARC Cinema Solutions, their Architects FDArchitecture & of course side by side with Dolby Cinema Architectural Services, Lavingtons Quantity Surveyors & the main contractor Heydon & Carr. We were an instrumental part of the team in technically designing the Dolby Cinema, combining Dolby’s future of Cinema with our Client’s design intents in leading the boutique Cinema experience.

With limited ceiling height in both screens we explored varying different ceiling designs with our Client to try and achieve a feeling of depth to ceilings and maximise the space for the picture. Our bespoke, aluminium framed, and stretched fabric wrapped “Lozenge” cofferred ceiling was a design feat in itself. The ceiling then had to be hung independently to the sprinkler & electrical/data/fire alarm containment on discrete pre-installed acoustic drop-rods installed previously by the shell contractor for the Power Station. Fully detailed surveys of drop rod positions in each screen by Sound Solutions enabled the technical design to start on solid ground.

With only a 250mm ceiling void to work with incorporating all the variuos specialist works and the support of the myriad of Dolby ceiling speakers, was an extreme challenge. We were a key player in the co-ordination of all these trades. We developed in-depth 2D & 3D designs and communicated these to all the various site teams to ensure that all the various specialist designers & contractors worked together seamlessly.

The Battersea Power Station is an incredibly high profile building which we are extremely proud to have been a part of, especially now as it has one of the most technologically advanced Cinema auditoria in the world. Being associated with the the Battersea Power Station, our Client and Dolby name is humbling. It has been an incredible project to work on and the finished article speaks and sings for itself! Two stunning cinema auditoria that we have immense pleasure in knowing we were part of the talented team that delivered it.
