With our successful involvement in the first Living Room Cinema in Liphook installing the acoustic wall treatments, The Living Room Cinema appointed us to be their Main Contractor fitting out their second in Chipping Norton.

We were involved at an early stage with Auditorium design working with our Client and the shell Architects. We also needed to have close collaboration with the shell contractor, the Landlord and early on site surveys to ensure we were able to maximise the intimate space allocated for the Cinema.

We worked with a great team of consultants and specialist sub-contractors; McFarlane Latter Architects, Unick Consulting (QS), PA Safety, CinemaNext, Wilden Services, Dunnington Electrical, Powell Cinema Engineers, CAPS Flooring to name a few.

With big screen releases on the horizon the pressure was on to deliver on time within a very tight timeline. We had many challenges to overcome throughout the project on such a unique old building to bring it back to life. The project needed close communication between ourselves the Landlord representative and shell contractor on the run up to our start on site to ensure we had the best possible site condition handed over to us.

Our work scope included new shop front, new bar and gantry, kitchen, storage cupboards, office, toilets, 2No auditoriums over two levels with secondary mass barrier ceiling supports, seating tiers, projector housings and bulkheads, screen end stages, bespoke handrails and of course our proprietary SoundStretch Timber & Fabric Acoustic Wall Treatments.

We are extremely proud of the finished product and to have been part of the team on this unique project. Chipping Norton now has a beautiful new Cinema to echo its surroundings in the stunning Cotswold Hills.

“I know that I'm pretty biased, but I don't think I've ever seen a cinema fitted out so beautifully as our latest in Chipping Norton. What's more, there are a number of our fit out team who have worked on plenty of other cinemas, who have said exactly the same thing.

Sound Solutions worked on the auditorium in our first cinema, and were on board to do the two screens in Chippy, when Ben suggested that they take on the entire fit out. I had been impressed the first time around and the workmanship, attention to detail, and crucially, the communication and the planning process that they demonstrated meant it was an easy yes from me.

Interior design and our brand is incredibly important to us as a company, and Ben and his team just "get us". We don't have interior designers - the entire fit out design process is very organic and we needed someone who not only understood that, but was able to second guess us at times and wouldn't try to steer us in another direction. A tall ask - but they rose to the challenge.

Once again, the diligence, communication, attention to detail was as before. We faced a number of challenges throughout the 11 week fit out period and any consequences, such as an alteration to the programme, were swiftly communicated - even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear! If you want to cut corners then Sound Solutions are not the team for you - specialists were called in where required, top quality materials are used, suggestions were made to improve things - but the team pride themselves not only on the quality of their work, but the longevity. This cinema will look good for a long, long time. And there is always the opportunity for value engineering in any project. All snags have been attended to within just over a month of completion.

When the time comes for cinema number three, I know who my team is likely to be. Thank you to Ben, Evaldas and team for building such a beautiful space for the Chipping Norton community.”
